Quake is an LGBT inclusive team, but straight players are also encouraged to join. In short…

Everyone is welcome!

Twice a year we have a “Rugby 101” event for interested rookies who would like to join with other rookies. We announce these events on our Facebook and Instagram pages, or check our scheduleBut no need to wait for Rugby 101, you can also join Quake at any time! Just come to a practice (they’re on our schedule) and ask to talk to a coach or board member. Quake is very friendly, don’t hesitate to come out and meet the team.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about rugby contact our membership chair.

What should I expect?

Rugby 101 and practice will involve plenty of ball-handling, running, kicking, and drills aimed at developing the skills needed to play rugby.  We’ll also learn about scrums and line outs. At Rugby 101 or your first several practices, you will not engage in contact (such as tackling or being tackled).

What should I wear?

Most of us wear shorts regardless of the cold, but sweatpants are an acceptable too. Add running shoes (or if you have cleats, please bring them!) and a t-shirt or sweatshirt, and you’re ready to go! Please don’t wear anything that can’t get dirty. Once you become a member of the team, you can build your own “kit”, including rugby boots, black rugby shorts, and a mouth guard. The club supplies players with game jerseys, and players get in on equipment orders (social jerseys, socks, t-shirts, sweatshirts/hoodies, etc.) in Quake colors and designs.

Social Aspects of Rugby

You may have noticed that we refer to our Seattle Quake Rugby team as a ‘club’. That’s because, besides being a traditional designation, it is a club, complete with all the social activity that the term implies. After every match, the opposing teams meet for a ‘drinkup’, with food, beer, songs, and laughter.
We also sponsor several non-match social events throughout each year. These include both fundraisers and informal get-togethers. Our club includes members (players) and supporters. Some members have never stepped onto a rugby pitch (except to cheer on their favorite team!), members who volunteer their services in a variety of ways, and people who just love the sport of rugby and want to be part of a fantastic team! No other team sport has quite the same spirit of camaraderie as rugby!

Club Membership

If you are coming to 101 or your first practice you don’t need to worry about fees and dues. Before you can play for Quake in an official match, you need to meet the requirements of the club and the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union.

Dues for union players may be paid through TeamSnap. Club dues support the necessary operating expenses of the organization. The club pays for practice fields, match pitches, referees, practice and game equipment, as well as membership recruitment activities. Due can be waived for players unable to pay.  We want everyone who’s interested to join us in having a great time playing rugby!
